The Cayman Islands Government has reportedly set up a task force to look at the wider implications of the Cayman Islands becoming a major player in the reinsurance market.
Head of insurance at the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA), Mary Lou Gallegos, said: “Beyond the recommendations of the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority to the Government regarding the changes to legislation that we think are necessary if we are to attract more open market reinsurers to establish operations in this domicile, the Government has established a task force to look at the wider implications of the Cayman Islands becoming a major player in the reinsurance market.
“As I understand it, this task force will examine such issues as immigration, housing and what needs to be done to attract highly qualified professionals to this industry - a clear indication of the jurisdiction’s commitment to ‘get it right the first time’,” she told the Cayman Captive Forum.
